Hydrogeology at FSU

RESEARCH AREAS

Students may specialize in hydrology with emphasis in physical or chemical processes. Thesis work may involve ground waters, surface waters, fluvial and hillslope processes, and computational methods applied to any of these topics. The program places a strong emphasis on the study of basic hydrological processes as these bear on geological problems. The program is broad based, with strong ties to other programs including the Departments of Chemistry and Oceanography, the School of Engineering, the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute, and the School of Computational Science and Information Technology.

FACILITIES

The hydrology laboratory within the department houses a variety of instruments including permeameters, a pressure-plate apparatus, and related supporting equipment. In addition, instruments for field measurements of flow, and media and water sampling, are available as are a wide variety of analytical chemistry facilities. Tilting flume and water tank facilities are housed in the College of Engineering. In addition to numerous microcomputers housed in the Department, advanced computational facilities are readily available on campus.
