Graduate Studies in Geological Sciences

Florida State University offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geological Sciences

Research Opportunities

Financial Support
Students admitted to the Graduate Program are automatically considered for Graduate Assistantships. We typically offer 10-12 Graduate Assistantships each year. In addition, faculty who are interested in working with specific applicants may offer funding from extramural grants in the form of Research Assistantships. Assistantships currently carry a stipend of $14,000 for the academic year, plus a tuition waiver worth up to $4433 to Florida residents or $18,178 to non-Florida residents. Also available are University Fellowships ($15,000 per year plus tuition waiver) and Presidential University Research Fellowships (to $20,000 per year plus tuition waiver) for outstanding students (http://gradstudies.fsu.edu/funding.html). Additionally some student research and part-time employment opportunities are funded by the Florida Geological Survey, located adjacent to the Department. We also encourage and assist graduate students with their own applications for scholarships and grants.
